MEMBERSHIP Q & A
Q. What is the Shaw Public Library Association “Friends of the Shaw Library”?
A. The Shaw Public Library Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that was established in 2006 for the purpose of raising money for the town’s public library.
Membership is open to all interested residents and non-residents who wish to actively support our library through donation and/or volunteering for fundraising activities.
Q. Doesn’t the town budget include library funding?
A. Yes, it certainly does and we are grateful for that. However, town funds, while covering most of the library upkeep and essentials, can’t cover all costs. That is where the association friends comes in. We raise funds for things that the library budget can’t cover.
Q. What are examples of library projects that the association has funded?
A. Refurbishing the Davis annex
Funding the “connector” between the library and the Davis annex
New rugs for the library
New furnace and water heater for the annex
New book return for the library
New generator for the annex and the library
Updated technology
Q. How do I become a member?
A. If you love our library and wish to devote time and/or funds, then you automatically are eligible for membership. All you need to do is contact us. Our officers’ emails are listed below.
Q. Are there meetings that I need to attend?
A. Invitations are sent to all members for the annual summer meeting. We love our members to join us for that meeting.
